“Equatex celebrated one year as a company this year and we were excited to further develop our presence and service offering across the globe, opening new offices in three locations,” says Equatex CEO Andrej Golob, who shares his highlights from 2016 below. “Being present in global key locations supports our ambition to offer international clients the best service on a worldwide scale.
“This year, we have also enjoyed collaborating with new partners, launching innovative products, and building up strong relationships with our clients. I’m looking forward to taking this momentum into 2017 as we cement our position as trusted experts offering the most innovative platform in the compensation plan industry.”
1. Launching a next-generation user experience
Equatex released a new version of its global compensation plan administration platform, EquatePlus. Working with renowned global design and strategy firm frog, Equatex put user experience at the heart of the redesign. “When we kicked off planning for the new version of our platform, we knew that to fulfil our ambition, we needed to completely redefine how employees and executives interact with their share and compensation plans,” Andrej explains. “With a host of new features, the solution will help companies increase participation rates and engagement levels among compensation plan participants.”
2. Strengthening relationships in Germany
In July, Equatex opened its first office in Germany. The new Frankfurt location has allowed the business to move even closer to its existing German clients, which includes 10 DAX-listed companies and their 300,000 employees. “Our new office will further strengthen Equatex’s relationships with our German clients,” says Andrej. “We will also be able to introduce technological innovation to the German market more directly.”
3. Obtaining a UK licence
This year, Equatex UK Limited successfully completed its application for a broker dealer licence with the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). The licence was issued by the FCA in July 2016, allowing Equatex to act as a broker dealer in the UK market. “With share incentive plans being widespread and firmly established across all industries, the UK market builds a cornerstone of our global growth strategy,” says Andrej.
4. Establishing Equatex US
Likewise, the US entity of Equatex obtained a broker dealer registration with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and membership with the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA). Equatex will also collaborate with leading technology innovator, Interactive Brokers LLC, which will act as the US clearing broker. Andrej adds: “This will enable us to serve our corporate clients’ US-based share and compensation plan participants in the best possible way.”
5. Introducing EquateFalcon
In September, Equatex was excited to launch EquatePlus’s new awards module, EquateFalcon, which cuts the time and effort involved in the process of delivering new financial awards. “When organisations are delivering new awards for employees, it is critically important that they have a fully auditable trail to remain compliant in the face of stringent regulation,” says Andrej. “EquateFalcon is a faster, smarter and safer option.”
6. Collaborating on Reflect
Equatex has enjoyed collaborating with a number of thought leaders this year for our customer magazine, Reflect. Topics have included behavioural economics, the gig economy and multi-generational workforces, with experts from INSEAD, Deloitte, hkp/// group and Bosch, to name but a few. In 2017, the magazine will be switching from print to digital. “The new digital magazine will be fully responsive, which means that you will be able to read it on your desktop, tablet and smartphone,” says Andrej. “Although the format is changing, the magazine will continue to share insightful and inspiring business ideas with you.”
7. Visiting Vienna for our client conference
In September, Equatex held its annual client conference in the beautiful city of Vienna in Austria. “The conference was a great success with 42 clients attending from all over the world and it provided an excellent platform for networking, sharing best practice, and discussing future technology and market trends,” says Andrej. Equatex also had the opportunity to give presentations with clients at key industry events throughout the year, including the 24th annual ProShare Conference and GEO Pan-European event.
8. Success for our clients
Equatex has seen success in the number of new client wins in 2016, which as Andrej says, “gives us confidence for 2017 – in total, we had close to 30 new wins.” Equatex was also very proud to play a part in helping its clients to be successful, with Siemens AG, Novartis International and F. Hoffmann-La Roche AG recognised at the Global Equity Organization’s Annual Awards ceremony, which took place in Boston in April.
“Siemens AG, Novartis International AG and Roche were awarded for Best Plan Effectiveness, Best Use of Employee Share Plans in a Corporate Action, and Best Use of Share Plan in an Emerging Market, respectively,” Andrej explains. “Our corporate client GAM was also recognised at the ProShare Annual Awards dinner held in December in London, awarded in the category of Best International Share Plan. What a fantastic year for us to look back on.”
