Global Corporate Challenge

Equatex employees on why they are taking part in the Global Corporate Challenge

Equatex took another great step forward in building its global winning culture by taking part in the Global Corporate Challenge (GCC), an incentive to improve health culture and employee engagement. The challenge involves Equatex employees from across different areas of the business entering a team of seven to compete as they try to walk at least 10,000 steps a day.

The initiative began at the beginning of September, with participants encouraged to keep records and improve their targets over the course of the challenge. We spoke to five employees who are taking part to find out why they got involved.

Sabine Kleinhans – Deferred Compensation Plan Specialist, Zurich

Why are you participating?
It is a great opportunity to take part in a team event with colleagues from the entire company. Also, it is the first of its kind to take place at Equatex. I really wanted to experience team spirit across the company.

What do you hope to achieve by the end of the challenge?
I hope that it will provide a friendly competition with lots of fun on an employee level, and I also hope it will motivate me to do more outdoor excursions as well.

Yvonne Cheah – Finance/Accounts Payable, Zurich

Why are you participating?
This is the first time I’ve heard about the GCC and the whole idea sounds very encouraging, especially in terms of promoting fitness. Healthy employees make a healthy organisation. It encourages team building and working together towards a common goal in a fun way.

What do you hope to achieve by the end of the challenge?
At the end of the challenge, personally, I hope that it becomes a habit of mine to stay active each day, challenge myself to reach another level and keep moving ahead, step by step. I hope that as an organisation, our colleagues continue to grow stronger and be more connected, and thereby promote overall wellbeing.

Kent O. Steen – Advisor, Oslo
Why are you participating?
I am participating mainly for the internal competition, as I am relatively active already, however it will be both fun and interesting to follow the teams and the statistics and see how far my team can go.

What do you hope to achieve by the end of the challenge?
I hope the Global Corporate Challenge will allow me to become more fit and motivated generally, as well as more aware of how much I actually use my body.

Murray Tompsett – Senior Client Relationship Manager, London
Why are you participating?
I participated in order to improve my overall fitness whilst building relations with my fellow team members, who are all based in another office.

What do you hope to achieve by the end of the challenge?
I hope that by the end of the challenge I will have increased my stamina, had some fun, and it would be great to lose a little weight too!

Gracco Righini – Senior Business Analyst, Zurich
Why are you participating?
It is a great opportunity to try something different with my colleagues, being part of a team with a healthy goal and losing a couple of kilos!

What do you hope to achieve by the end of the challenge?
I hope to feel better with my body and change my habits for a positive impact on my overall wellbeing. My personal goal is to increase my number of daily steps by 30 per cent.
