Role purpose

The Product Owner (PO) is responsible to deliver working software that meets stakeholder requirements. With a passion to deliver the best possible software solutions, PO leads an agile IT development team to success. The PO know what the customer needs, can envision the product and can communicate the vision in an understandable way to the development team. The PO works closely with the development team, Product Management and other stakeholders towards the goal of working solutions. Creating, prioritising and managing the product backlog is a major purpose of the PO role. The PO is also responsible for maintaining the integrity and the quality of the final deliverable. The PO actively supports the agile transformation of Equatex and ensures the right technology, products and associated processes are in place.

 

Job description and responsibilities
The PO is responsible for:

A)     The product backlog (aka requirements engineering)

  • Epics, themes, features, user stories and requirements that are aligned with the product strategy and that are visible 6 clear to all
  • Prioritised backlog items that are ordered to best achieve the goals and objectives
  • Backlog items that are understood by the development team and can be achieved in a sprint
  • An adequate amount of prepared tasks for the development team to work on
  • Ensuring that working software is deployed in production by working closely with release management

B)      Remaining really close to development

  • Ensuring that the development team develops software that meets the stakeholder requirements
  • Attending in the daily Scrums, sprint planning meetings and retrospectives
  • Contributing to architecture, design and analysis
  • Understanding the software feature functionality on a detailed logical level
  • Ensuring adequate communication between internal and external stakeholders
  • High quality of the software by actively contributing to the quality assurance

C)      Agile Leadership

  • Take lead in a development team as the PO
  • Provide vision and direction to the development team and stakeholders
  • Lead the product release planning and set expectation for delivery of new features
  • Actively mitigate risks and issues impacting successful team completion of goals
  • Reporting of status, time and financial spending

D)     Transition & Support

  • Handover to Production Support, Business Consulting and other relevant user
  • Retrievable and clear system and product level documentation
  • Analysis and resolution of issues that cannot be resolved by others

 

Qualifications, skills & knowledge
Key qualifications:

  • University degree in computer science engineering or similar relevant field
  • Previous working experience as a Product Owner or similar function for 2 years in an agile environment
  • In-depth knowledge of agile process and principles
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Strong analytical thinking, writing, modelling and problem solving skills
  • Skilled in requirements elicitation & requirement formulation considering various stakeholder levels
  • Ability to create diagrams, models and communicate by using them. Good understanding of UML but able to abstract and speak the stakeholder’s language
  • Good knowledge of database (SQL, ERD), middle-ware (Java, web, UI) and other IT technologies

Beneficial skills

  • Experience as IT developer / programmer
  • SCRUM master or equivalent certification / SCRUM Product Owner certification PSPO 1 or 2
  • IREB, BABOK or equivalent business analysis certification are desirable
  • Knowledge of Confluence and JIRA are beneficial

Domain skill-sets

The ideal candidate possesses good domain knowledge in one or more of the following domains. Missing domain knowledge must be compensated with a strong willingness to learn and dive into these topics.

1. Securities operations and custody domain
Knows and understands the principles and inner workings of the securities trade life-cycle, share transfer services, the custody business and the settlement processes
2. Payments domain
Good knowledge of various payment services such as SEPA, ACH, SWIFT, ISO20022 and the concepts of standing order instructions
3. Regulatory and tax domain
Understand the purpose and principles of FATCA & CRS / AEoI, Kreisschreiben Nr. 371, BUW, W-8BEN, W9, 1099, 3922 etc
4. Deferred compensation plan business
Understanding of the share based compensation plan business, i.e. discretionary plans, ESPP, ESOP, U.S. 421 & 423 plans, U.K.: SAYE, SIP, CSOP, ERS, Employee shares, RS(A), stock options, warrants, RSU, DEU, SAR, Phantom Stock. A NCEO qualification, e.g. CECP/CEP or similar is of great valuen
